One thing that I have found incredibly helpful in staying present is wearing a bracelet. Each time I notice myself dwelling on the past or a negative thought, I move the bracelet to my other wrist. It's a subtle way to acknowledge where my mind is at or repeate an affirmation. It made me realize how much I had not been living in the moment.

What is the most beautiful thing I have seen today? I have started to ask myself this periodically. If I cannot describe anything, then I know I am not fully experiencing the present. Especially on the hard days, I need those little moments to make me fall back in love with life.

I have a list of high vibration, loving words that I keep adding to. When I catch myself thinking a negative thought, I turn my attention to a word like love, or growth or abundance. Any word that lifts my Spirit.

My therapist taught me this 5 things 5 senses exercise to help with sleep, but I use it during panic attacks when I start to dissociate. You list 5 things you feel, 5 things you hear, 5 things you smell, 5 things you see, 5 things you taste, and then repeat. I mostly just do feel, hear, and see. I find it pulls me back into the present moment. It forces you to really focus by like the second or third repetition.

Doing yoga/meditation first thing in the morning sets me up to be calmer and mindful, and focusing on one thing at a time encourages me mindful throughout the day. It’s a habit I hope to master.

I try to break routine by looking at something in a different way than I usually do. Like instead of staring at a place that I look at every time I sit down, I break routine by looking at a specific swirl in the grain of the table or by counting the dots of the tablecloth.

I baked mini brownies for my friends since today is Valentine's Day. Making them made me feel proud and accomplished. I'm not good at cooking, so whenever I successfully make something, I feel better about myself.
