Whenever I have a flashback, I try to do this 4-step mindfulness technique that my therapist told me about. 1) identify your feelings 2) describe what is currently similar to the traumatic situation 3) describe what is currently different from h e traumatic situation 4) actions to increase your sense of comfort and safety It really works!

I write all the shit that happened in a day in my diary every night, so that my mind is clear when I go to sleep.

I look at the full picture and think properly about the situation and how it will affect me in the long term. Then I smile and know to be calm as life is too short to worry constantly.

I think of living presently and not going backwards. No more living in the past. We are truly not the mistakes we've made.

I go on a walk, plug in my earphones. And listen to my music. I then let my thoughts pass and go without thinking too much or worrying about them. I also pretend I'm dreaming and that it doesn't really mattwr

I think about friends and weird connection, coincidence that makes us meet. It feels kind of magic, to realize that a story just a bit different could have change entirely the people I could have met, and who I am now.

With so many constant external and internal distractions, I like to hang onto the silence between my thoughts, which brings me a great sense of contentment. Even in a busy environment, it's nice to focus your energy on nothing in particular and just watch the world go by at its familiar pace.

I take a step back and really try to visualize everything that's happening at this moment with other people, with the earth and with the whole universe. It really puts in perspective the fact that you are so small in the grandeur of it all and then your problems/worries/fears shrink too.
